Ten Days on the Island
March 9 - March 24
Ten Days on the Island is Tasmania’s statewide arts festival, with something for everyone.
The Festival is a wild and welcoming carnival of creativity, a confident celebration of our unique identity and our diverse island home.
Ten Days has a deep respect for the arts in regional Tasmania and a clear commitment to Tasmanian artists. We know that magic happens in far-flung places.
Since the first Festival in 2001 we have proudly showcased Tasmania’s finest artists alongside the world’s best. And our 10th festival in March 2019 will once again provide the stage for a stunning array of home-grown and international artists.
Our decision to move the Ten Days’ HQ to Burnie in the state’s NW in 2017 was a further sign of our commitment to the regions. The University of Tasmania backed the move, providing space at the Makers’ Workshop and the Tasmanian Government committed additional funding.
Ten Days has always had a pioneering spirit.
In 2001 we built a new festival model that put the spotlight on Tasmanian artists for a wider audience, brought high-quality international art to our shores and built the state’s arts infrastructure.
And our ground-breaking spirit remains strong today.
For 2019, Ten Days has been re-imagined. For the first time, the Festival will be spread across three weekends, giving audiences even more chance to explore the extraordinary. More chance to embrace the very best Tasmanian creativity. More chance to experience international art selected to complement and amplify our locally made work.
Ten Days was delighted to secure acclaimed international festival and opera director, Lindy Hume, as Artistic Director for Festivals 2019 and 2021.
Lindy has an impressive record. She directed the Sydney Festival and Perth Festival and is a passionate advocate for the arts in regional Australia. Her leadership raises the bar for Tasmania’s arts.
So as March 2019 approaches, get ready for a magnificent program of art packed with heart and imagination – right across Tasmania.
