Open Garden Weekend Longford Blooms, Longford's Open Garden weekend, celebrates Longford's beautiful gardens in spring, in conjunction with the Woolmers Festival of Roses. This year's gardens include two historic gardens that have never been opened before, and many other local gardens. Also on offer will be plant stalls, craft, food and champagne. Tickets are available on the day and include entry to all of the gardens.
Woolmers will be displaying thousands of roses, as well as over 80 stalls ranging from wine, food, jewellery, art and crafts, at their annual Festival of Roses. There will be some wonderful activities for children on the day. Woolmers Estate, near the historic town of Longford, is a unique and fascinating reflection of colonial life in Tasmania and is one of the most historically significant heritage properties in Australia. Tasmania will the host of the 2019 World Fly Fishing Championships.
This seven-day course focuses on traditional building materials including stone, brick, mortar, plaster, wood, metals and finishes. It covers their properties, how they weather and decay, and how they are best conserved. Topics include salt attack and rising damp, repointing of mortar joints, timber decay and termites, and galvanic corrosion of metals. Events held throughout the day include: - The feature race of the day, the National Penny Farthing Championship. John Glover and Prize John Glover was a successful British painter and contemporary of Turner and John Constable. Glover painted in the picturesque style advocated by Claude Lorraine, taking the Grand Tour of Europe and wandering the moors and mountains of Britain in search of inspiration.
