Longford Blessing of the Harvest
6 March 2016 @ 11:00 am - 11:30 am UTC+11
To celebrate Longford’s pride in being the hub of one of the richest agricultural districts in Tasmania, the town holds a Blessing of the Harvest annually.
The 2016 event will be held Sunday 6 March. The Longford Blessing of the Harvest Festival has been held on a Sunday in early March every year since 1995.
For a number of years the need to refresh the event has been discussed by the organisers, the Rotary Club of Longford, and after discussing the refresh with the local churches, it was agreed to introduce a new format for the 2016 Blessing of the Harvest on Sunday March 6th.
As a result the focal point of the day will be the blessing of the harvest by ministers from the local churches, accompanied by harvest-themed music and a special feature is being re-instated by popular demand; that is, the blessing of farm animals and pets.
This rejuvenated community event will start at 11am on Sunday March 6th at the rotunda on the Village Green in the heart of Longford. Community members are encouraged to bring along any produce (perishable and non-perishable) they can provide to add context to the occasion, and also to bring ?sociable? pets and farm animals to be blessed. (The perishable produce will be for sale after the blessing and the non-perishable produce will be donated to the local Helping Hand organisation).
After the Blessing, the Rotary Club and Riverlands will provide a free community lunch including a BBQ and delicious Devonshire teas. There will be an array of activities to entertain and involve the children, and background music to enjoy. You?re encouraged to bring a picnic rug and/or chairs and to relax and enjoy warm Longford hospitality and the community lunch.
